Cryogenic Temperature Probe Assemblies

Scientific Instruments is a “make to order” facility. Please use the descriptions and drawings as a guide to various assemblies we can provide. Please contact us with your intended application(s) so we can determine your requirements.
The basic sensing elements used in temperature probe assemblies designed and manufactured by Scientific Instruments, Inc. are our Series Si410 silicon diodes. These diodes are rugged, wide-range sensing elements which offer excellent interchangeability to standard temperature-versus-voltage curves. This interchangeability allows a user to employ any given temperature probe assembly in his facility while using a single temperature curve for signal conditioning requirements.

Interchangeability specifications for the various models which comprise the Series Si410 silicon diode sensors are as follows:
- Model NumberInterchangeability
- Si410AA
±0.1K, 1.5K to 25K
±0.5K, 25K to 450K - Si410A
±0.3K, 1.5K to 25K
±0.5K, 25K to 450K - Si410AA
±1.0K, 1.5K to 25K
±2.0K, 25K to 450K - Si410A
±0.5K, 1.5K to 25K
±1.0K, 25K to 450K
The Series Si410 diodes are also available as calibrated units for those applications where more precise measurements are required.
Note
Temperature probe assemblies are also available for higher temperature applications. These utilize platinum resistance thermometers as the temperature-sensing elements.
TYPICAL PROBE CONFIGURATIONS
Miniature Thermowell Inset
Miniature variable-length thermowell inserts are typically used in helium liquifiers and in hydrogen and nitrogen applications. (see figures below)

In-stream Sensor Assembly
This assembly is designed for installation in gas and liquid flow lines, thus subjecting the “exposed” temperature sensing elements directly to the medium. This design offers extremely fast response time. (see figure below)

Thermowell and Insert Assembly
The thermowell and its associated dual-element spring-loaded insert offers sturdy design for typical industrial applications. The spring-loaded sensor insert assures positive thermal contact between its copper tip and the interior wall of the thermowell. Useful temperature range is 4.2K to 450K.
(see figure below)

Flanged Tube Thermowell and Insert Assembly
This heavy-duty flanged thermowell and probe assembly incorporates similar sensor technology as that for the non-flanged model. The use of a 150 lb. ANSI mounting flange allows for installation in high-pressure applications and is particularly well suited for liquid hydrogen service.
